Ever since the late eighties, video and film have been omnipresent in Wim Vandekeybus' performing arts. These integrated moving pictures lend a particular rhythm and energy to his productions. In recent years, text has become another important component of his many-sided oeuvre. The new production, 'Puur', is the next stage in his investigation of the interaction between image, words and movement. Vandekeybus draws inspiration from old myths and universal stories about people who kill for fear of losing power; about the isolation of the despot and his alienation from the outside world; about the tormenter and the victim; about guilt and innocence. Together with his performers, Wim Vandekeybus examines the emotions and motives of the characters in the story. As always, he does so with an astounding physical intensity, with a keen sense of poetry and with great expressive force.
